A myomectomy is performed to remove uterine fibroids, which are benign growths that form around and in the uterus. Fibroids, which usually occur during childbearing years, can lead to pelvic pain, as well as heavy periods and pregnancy complications. There are a variety of ways to treat uterine fibroids, but if you want the opportunity to have children in the future, board-certified gynecologist Dr. Linda Sodoma suggests a myomectomy. For more information on myomectomies, contact Dr. Linda Sodoma Aesthetics and Gynecology in Gilbert, AZ.

If you have uterine fibroids, we provide a variety of treatments based on your particular condition, such as the type and size of the fibroids. Myomectomy is performed as an outpatient procedure at our Gilbert, AZ office and is usually performed using the da Vinci® robotic surgery, a laparoscopic treatment. This involves using a small incision and is considered minimally invasive, leading to a shorter recovery time. Once we make the incision, Dr. Sodoma will remove the fibroid, then stitch your incision up. From there, you’ll be released to go home to rest and recover. We will provide you with at-home care instructions to help you heal successfully, which usually takes between 2 – 4 weeks.
