What Is PRP Hair Regrowth?

Hair loss is a significant concern for many individuals, whether it is brought on by age, genetics, hormones, health conditions, or styling products or practices. With current advances in research in the hair restoration industry, new procedures are being made to help combat the problem. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an emerging nonsurgical treatment for people that is showing remarkable benefits in slowing, stopping, and reversing hair loss. PRP has also shown promising outcomes in individuals with alopecia areata or thinning eyebrows. Dr. Linda Sodoma of Dr. Linda Sodoma Aesthetics and Gynecology offers this innovative therapy. Utilizing biotin and a strong solution of hair growth factors and bioactive proteins, Dr. Sodoma can help strengthen the function of your hair, resulting in longer, thicker, healthier locks. It’s necessary to remember that PRP does not grow new hair follicles in places where you are already bald but is used to reverse the miniaturization of hair follicles so they will produce fuller, healthier, longer hair fibers. How Does PRP for Hair Loss Work?

A nonsurgical process, PRP for hair regrowth is a brief one-hour in-office visit. The procedure begins with drawing a small amount of blood and placing it in a specialized machine, which separates the platelets from the remaining portion of the blood components. After that, a local anesthetic is administered to your scalp and the platelet-rich plasma is reintroduced into regions of your scalp that are thinning or bald. Then, microneedling is performed on the scalp to create micro-channels to the skin, which activates the PRP and permits it to seep deep into the skin. At the same time, we will perform biotin injections, which is a proven solution to encouraging keratin production. There’s no downtime following this process; however, you may develop some redness, minor swelling, and mild tenderness to the treated areas. These symptoms can last up to 48 hours. While results differ for each patient, results are generally seen approximately 4 – 6 months after the initial session and can continue to improve for a full year. Repeat sessions are highly recommended every 12 – 18 months.
