Birth control provides a number of benefits to our Gilbert, AZ patients. With something for everybody, our array of birth control options offer many benefits, including:

  • A wide variety of treatment options with varying levels of invasiveness and maintenance
  • Safe, well-researched options that are effective at preventing pregnancy
  • Ability to manage menstrual symptoms and frequency
  • Helps you feel confident and safe in your sexual wellness journey

Ideal candidates for birth control vary based on individual health, lifestyle, and reproductive goals. Birth control methods are often suitable for sexually active individuals looking to prevent pregnancy. Women with menstrual irregularities, heavy periods, or conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) may benefit from hormonal birth control to regulate their cycles. Additionally, birth control can be prescribed for managing hormonal imbalances, reducing acne, and alleviating symptoms of conditions like endometriosis. Women seeking family planning options or those with medical conditions that may pose risks during pregnancy may also be candidates. It’s essential to consult with a member of our team at Dr. Linda Sodoma Aesthetics and Gynecology to discuss individual health history, preferences, and potential side effects in order to choose the most appropriate birth control method.

During your yearly well-woman exam or anytime you are thinking about contraceptives, we welcome you to ask Dr. Sodoma about the birth control options we offer. Below is an overview of the main birth control options offered.

Birth control pills
While a less invasive option than some of our other options, it’s imperative to remember to take your birth control pill at the same time each day in order for it to remain effective. This is a great option if you’re not interested in injections or an implant.

Intrauterine devices
Intrauterine devices, better known as IUDs, are small devices that are placed into the uterus by Dr. Sodoma or another one of our skilled team members. We can do this right in our office, and it only takes a few minutes. One of the benefits of IUDs is that they usually are effective for many years.

Injectable birth control options are hormone-based medication that is injected about every three months. One of the benefits of this option that we hear from our patients is your menstrual cycle will stop altogether. However, it can take between 9 – 12 months after your last shot to start ovulating again so careful planning is needed if you have specific desires for when you wish to try and get pregnant.

We also offer implants, such as NEXPLANON, which are inserted into the arm and slowly release hormones. You may be able to see and feel the implant, but with this option, you can have up to three years of birth control. If you decide to conceive before it’s time to replace the implant, we can easily remove it at your request.
